The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) elected its new leadership team yesterday at the ProDealer Industry Summit in Charleston, SC. At the association's annual meeting, the NLBMDA Board of Directors elected George Lester as the new Chair of the association. George is Chair and CEO at The Lester Group in Martinsville, Virginia and is replacing outgoing chair Scott Yates, president and general manager at Denver Lumber Company in Denver, Colorado.

Northeastern Retail Lumber Association

David Moore


On Oct. 22, the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association (NRLA) presented David Moore, President of Wiley Brothers in Schaghticoke, N.Y., with the Paul S. Collier Award. The Collier Award recognizes the loyal, faithful and devoted services above and beyond the call of duty to the lumber and building material industry and to the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association.  

During his nearly 30 years of service to the NRLA, Moore has served on almost every NRLA committee. He has volunteered with Group 531 to provide insurance and dividends to New York members. He served on the NRLA Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He also served as Vice Chair, Chair Elect, and NRLA Chair, and then came back onto the Executive Committee several years later to serve as Treasurer for three years.

Bob Bicknell

 

The Northeastern Retail Lumber Association (NRLA) announced Robert “Bob” Bicknell as the new Chair of its board of directors. Bicknell is President of Bicknell Building Supply in Potsdam, N.Y. Bicknell was installed as Chair during the NRLA’s Annual Meeting on Oct. 22, 2016.

Massachusetts Retail Lumber Dealers Association

At its 2016 Annual Meeting on Oct. 25, the Massachusetts Retail Lumber Dealers Association (MRLDA) presented Michael, Gerard, and Jack Moynihan, Moynihan Lumber Company in North Reading, Mass., with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award, and recognized Tom McNulty, Hingham Lumber Company in Cohasset, Mass., 2016 Lumber Person of the Year. These awards recognize individuals for their significant contributions to the lumber and building materials (LBM) industry as well as to his or her local community.

The Massachusetts Retail Lumber Dealers Association Lifetime Achievement Award honors individuals for their cumulative contributions to the lumber industry. It is a special recognition to someone who has truly “made a difference” in the business and has made a significant and measurable impact to the lumber community and to the communities in which they serve.

WOODBURY, N.Y. - On Oct. 27, the New York and Long Island Lumber Association (NYLILA) announced Edgar Goodale, of Riverhead Building Supply, 2016 Lumber Person of the Year. These awards recognize individuals for their significant contributions to the lumber and building materials industry as well as to his or her local community. 

A lifelong Long Islander and Riverhead resident, Goodale started working at his father’s lumberyard at age 16. Decades later, Goodale and his brother Russell ? an equal partner in the company - have expanded from a single location with 25 employees, to a 14 location operation, operating in two states with more than 550 employees.

NNYLDA Announces Industry Excellence Award

Joe Lamb

 

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - On Oct. 22, 2016 the Northern New York Lumber Dealers Association (NNYLDA) awarded Joe Vernon Lamb III, Lamb Lumber Company in Lake Placid, N.Y., with the 2016 Industry Excellence Award. The Industry Excellence Award honors an exceptional employee of the lumber and building material industry who has dedicated their life to the industry and who is recognized with the utmost respect and regard by their peers.

Joe Vernon Lamb III graduated from the Northwood School in Lake Placid in 1973. After obtaining a B.A. in Coaching and a B.S. in Resource Economics from the University of Vermont in 1978, Joe returned to Lake Placid and began working for his father, Joe Lamb Jr., at the Lamb Lumber Company. In 1988, be became President of the company where he oversees all aspects of the Lamb Lumber Company.

In addition to his dedication to the business, Joe has a life-long passion for the U.S. Ski Team. In 1972, Joe was on the 1972 Olympic Nordic Combined Ski Team in Sapporo, Japan. Although an injury took him out of the games, he went on to be a highly decorated U.S. Ski Team Coach and fostered the support of young athletes. From 1981 to 1984, Joe was Head Coach for the Nordic Combined U.S. Ski Team. Among his many accolades, Joe has been inducted into the University of Vermont Hall of Fame as well as the Lake Placid Hall of Fame.

It’s a great balancing act for Joe to be able dedicate himself to his business, the Town of Lake Placid, and to athletes around the world. The NNYLDA is proud to honor Joe Lamb with the Industry Excellence Award.

Lamb will be recognized, along with fellow Lumber Persons of the Year from across the Northeast, at 2017 LBM Expo in Providence, RI on Feb. 16, 2017. LBM Expo is the largest regional event in the lumber and building material industry.

 


 

Nally elected to national board of directors

WOOSTER -- At the recent National Frame Building Association (NFBA) annual meeting, David Nally, president of The D.C. Curry Lumber Co. in Wooster, was elected to its board of directors. NFBA is a nonprofit trade association that promotes the interests of the post-frame construction industry and its members. The association?s members are primarily post-frame builders, suppliers, manufacturers, building material dealers, code and design professionals and structural engineers.
